Teaching approach

Know how — and understand why.

I believe music knowledge becomes clear when it is used in a real creative process. Lessons begin with the student’s current work, questions and direction rather than repeating the same fixed material.

I bring practical experience from composition, arrangement, recording, production and live performance into the lesson, helping students understand the reasons behind each musical choice and develop skills they can use independently.

Teaching experience

Teaching while continuing to make music.

Since 2004, I have taught music production in tertiary education, including at the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi), and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA). I have also contributed to training in worship music and sound systems for church teams.

Students I have taught have gone on to work across songwriting and performance, pop and independent bands, record production, mixing, recording, sound design and screen composition. Others have brought their learning into worship music ministry or gained experience on different music stages and programmes.
